The village retains the peaceful and authentic character of a small Evrytanian settlement, away from the busier routes. Its proximity to Tsoka, the Krikellopotamos River and Lake Kremasta creates an exceptionally rich natural environment, where mountains, water and forests come together to shape the distinctive landscape of southern Evrytania.

The settlements of Ptelea and Tserkova are located nearby, while the area around Alestia is ideal for exploration, hiking and nature walks. Tsoka rises above the settlement and is one of the most distinctive features of the surrounding landscape.

Aniada retains the peaceful and authentic character of a small Evrytanian village. Its close connection with Kaliakouda and the rich natural surroundings make it an ideal starting point for those wishing to discover a quieter, less-visited side of mountainous Evrytania.

Routes towards Kaliakouda and the mountain refuge begin from the village, passing through fir forests, small streams and old cultivated slopes. The landscape around Aniada is ideal for hiking, nature walks and exploration, with the imposing ridge of Kaliakouda dominating the horizon.

The older name “Vraniana” is already recorded in a Meteora codex dating from the 13th–14th century, while one theory links the village’s name to the Byzantine Vranas family and another to the Franks. In the centuries that followed, the village experienced remarkable intellectual and cultural growth and developed into an important centre of learning in Agrafa, leaving behind a rich cultural heritage that complements the natural beauty of the area.

At the locations of Sborn and Chonteika, at the foot of the village, lie the springs of the Agrafiotis River, which flows through the area and forms one of the most distinctive features of the landscape.

Agrafa has given its name to the entire Agrafa mountain range, at the southern end of the Pindus. It is an impressive mountainous region with numerous peaks rising above 2,000 metres, the highest being Karava at 2,184 metres. Its remoteness, rugged beauty and dramatic terrain create an authentic landscape that captivates lovers of mountains and nature.

The village’s history is equally eventful. In 1942, Agrafa was burned by the Italian occupation forces, but it was later rebuilt, preserving elements of its traditional architecture.

Among the village’s most important landmarks are two of its oldest surviving churches: Panagia, built in 1600, and Agios Georgios, dating from 1610. Together with the surrounding natural landscape and the area’s rich history, they shape the distinctive character of a village that serves as an ideal starting point for discovering the heart of Agrafa.

Its name is due to the fact that in an area of ​​the gorge which does not exceed 80m in length, frozen waters coming from the steep mountain of Kaliakouda in their attempt to become one with the waters of the Krikeliotis river find a way out from springs on the tops of the gorge creating beautiful waterfalls, due to their great height, however, their flow is not continuous and solid, but breaks up in a large radius into small and large drops, creating a continuous artificial rain, turning the already beautiful landscape into a magical one.

The approach to the gorge is made from Krikellioti - Stournaras Bridge at village Roska. From there, the river trekking starts to the point where it always rains, which rewards the visitor with its wild, magical beauty.

House of Virgin Mary, the Lady of Roumeli

The historical monastic complex, which dates back to 829 AD, is 35 kilometers from Karpenisi. On the path that leads to the Monastery, there are the footprints of the Virgin Mary, seven shapes of different colors which, according to sacred tradition, are the traces left by the Virgin Mary on her way to Prousos on the vertical rock that exists at this point.

The holy icon of the Virgin Mary, created by the Evangelist Luke, fled in 829 AD, during the period of the Iconoclasm, to Bursa in Asia Minor in order to escape the burning of the Byzantine icons ordered by the Emperor Theophilos. The icon was taken to Greece by a young man named Dionysios, but for some unknown reason it was lost when the young man arrived in Thrace.

From Thrace the icon appeared in Evritania, making its presence felt in a shepherd with a luminous pillar that reached from the earth to the sky, on August 23 (day of the Assumption of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary). This is also the date on which the memory of the icon is celebrated in the monastery where it was transferred, as it was believed that this was the place chosen by Virgin Mary to "dwell".

In fact, the cell where the hero of 1821 lived still exists in the monastery.
